It’s the time of year when we remind our clients and partners that we close our doors for a week of winter/holiday rest from December 26, 2022 - January 2, 2023. We also want to share our new “office closure policy” taking effect in 2023.
Over the years, we have discussed the uneasy feeling of taking collective days off under the guise of “celebrating” traumatic parts of our nation’s history. We also appreciate the peace in taking some of the same days off, to avoid coordinating one team member being out. Through many team discussions throughout 2022, we built a new policy intended to be more equitable. We landed on a policy of revised office closures, complemented with unlimited PTO.
As an organization, we will take the following common days off in 2023:
- New Year’s Day
- Martin Luther King Jr. day (third Monday of January)
- Memorial Day (last Monday of May)
- Fourth of July
- Labor Day (first Monday of September)
- Indigenous Peoples Day (second Monday of October)
- The last five workdays of the calendar year
Our hope is that employees will use their unlimited PTO to take off days that are important to them. We recognize that this policy is imperfect but we hope it moves us as an organization, and as individuals, a little closer to equity. As comes naturally to us as evaluators, we will watch closely how this shakes out throughout the year and will revisit and update it as needed.
