Here’s a situation you may be in right now: You, your colleagues, and stakeholders spent a lot of time and energy developing a thoughtful, forward-thinking strategic plan to guide your organization as it grows and evolves in the future.
You may have worked with The Improve Group on an evaluation – but did you know that we also facilitate the development of data-driven strategic plans? Maybe we know you from a project providing community engagement, but you might not know that we provide facilitation to support staff teams, workgroups, and task forces to move their work forward.
2025 marks 25 years of The Improve Group! A lot has changed within our organization and in the world we are working to make better. The mission we have and the values that drive us persist.
Experiences and encounters, big and small, have shaped us. IGers past and present, community members, clients, and partners have made IG who we are today. We are grateful for the many ways we have grown from our experiences:
The Improve Group strives to be a “teal” organization. No, that’s not an interior design choice. Teal organizations, as coined by Frederic Laloux in the book “Reinventing Organizations,” prioritize self-management, wholeness, and evolutionary purpose. Laloux says Teal companies are the latest evolution of the workplace.
The end of the year is a natural time for many to reflect and, dare we say, evaluate(!) the previous 12 months. At IG, 2024 was our first full year as a worker-owned cooperative. We continued to dig into what it means to operate as a co-op and use Teal self-management practices. We expanded how we consider equity as an organization and as evaluators in our work.
We’re excited to announce that The Improve Group won the prestigious President’s Management Agenda (PMA) Learning Agenda Challenge from Challenge.gov!
I became a worker-owner of The Improve Group Cooperative in April. Although I had to wait until I had been at IG for 6 months before I was eligible to join the co-op, my journey to becoming a member started right when I joined The Improve Group (IG).
Hi! I’m Trinity Alexander, an associate consultant at IG. One way I support projects is through providing survey expertise. We design surveys for many projects; winnowing down the length of a survey is always a goal.
In mid-March, I logged into a virtual meeting on a Monday afternoon. In some ways, this meeting felt like an ordinary all-staff meeting—a well-planned agenda, breakout room activities, a brief visit from a colleague’s adorable baby, and the thoughtful discussion I’ve come to expect from my team at IG. This was not an ordinary staff meeting, however. This was the first general assembly of The Improve Group worker-owned cooperative.
