Girl Scouting Impact at 100 Years

Girl Scouting in America reached its 100 the Anniversary in 2012. Reflecting the culture we observed in our evaluation projects with them, they celebrated the milestone by examining the impact they have had on the lives of young girls and women across the country. Their research shows that “approximately one in every two adult women (49%) in the U.S. has at some point been a member of Girl Scouts; the average length of time a girl spends in Girl Scouting is four years. There are currently an estimated 59 million Girl Scout alumnae living in the U.S.”  The report called, Girl Scouting Works: The Alumnae Impact Study goes on to say how girls involved in scouting have indicated positive outcomes in important areas such as achievement in education, participation in volunteering, civic engagement, higher income and perceptions of self.
