Outside the office, Ellen is an outdoor person at heart. She enjoys running, gardening, playing the piano, and baking bread.


Ellen brings to The Improve Group team experience designing and executing mixed methods research and evaluation. She is particularly well-versed in quantitative methods and is skilled in translating data into actionable insights and creative visuals. Ellen has expertise in many areas of domestic and global public health, including immunization, health care policy, and health systems research.
Ellen is enthusiastic about working with clients to derive real meaning and impact from evaluation findings. She focuses on building strong relationships and maintaining open and effective communications. Her strengths include organized project management and responsiveness to client needs.
Ellen has practiced evaluation in a wide variety of settings, including academia, nonprofits, and health care. She brings to the team expertise in health equity. Ellen’s rich background in the health sector includes Medicaid and health care access and experience evaluating health improvement initiatives in hospitals and local governments.

Hennepin Healthcare and Hennepin County | Minneapolis, MN | Senior Population Health Analyst | 2018-2019 | Led quantitative and qualitative evaluations to determine the impact and efficacy of multiple health interventions and analyzed data to improve services for a managed care Medicaid population.

Kaiser Family Foundation | Washington, DC | Policy Analyst, Medicaid and the Uninsured | 2017-2018 | Evaluated the impact of federal legislative changes and proposals on public insurance and on disadvantaged groups and executed statistical analyses using primary survey data and large claims data in a variety of programming languages to analyze health policy trends.

Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation | Seattle, WA | 2014-2017| Evaluated the impact of immunization funding and characterized the barriers to successful immunization programs using quantitative and qualitative methods, including surveys, statistical modeling, and process evaluations.
